Follow these simple instructions to learn how to set up internet connections in Windows XP.
This article explains how to setup wireless connection between a NETGEAR router and a non-NETGEAR wireless adapter (using Windows XP Wireless Zero Configuration). There is a 2 part video walk through for the installation steps listed below that you can follow as well. Windows XP: Click Add or Remove Programs. When you find the program GLO BOLT, click it, and then do one of the following: Windows Vista/7/8: Click Uninstall. Windows XP: Click the Remove or Change/Remove tab (to the right of the program). Follow the prompts. A progress bar shows you how long it will take to remove GLO BOLT.
Start the New Internet Connection Wizard
In Windows XP, a built-in wizard allows you to set up network connections of various kinds. To access the Internet section of the wizard, choose the Connect to the Internet option from the Select Network Connection Type list. Broadband and dial-up connections can be made through this interface.
The Getting Ready page presents three choices as shown:
- The Choose from a list of Internet Service Providers option gives instructions for setting up an account with an ISP, then making the Internet connection through that new account.
- The Set up my connection manually option sets up connections for accounts that have already been opened with an ISP (username and password are ready for use).
- The Use the CD I got from an ISP option should be used when possessing an installation CD-ROM from one of the service providers.
Choose From a List of Internet Service Providers
Selecting the Choose from a list of Internet Service Providers option in the 'Connect to the Internet' section of the Windows XP New Connection Wizard leads to the screen shown.
By default, the first option Get online with MSN is selected. To set up a new connection to MSN, click Finish. To set up a new connection to various other ISPs, change the radio button selection to the second option and then click Finish. Both of these options led to additional setup screens for dial-up Internet services popular in the early 2000s.
Set Up My Connection Manually
Following the Set up my connectionmanually option in the 'Connect to the Internet' section of the Windows XP New Connection Wizard leads to the screen shown.
This wizard assumes an account has been opened previously. Manual connections require the username (account name) and password from a working ISP service. Dial-up connections also require a telephone number; broadband connections do not.
The next step presents three options for creating a manual connection:
- The Connect using a dial-up modem option works for phone line Internet services (either traditional dial-up or ISDN).
- The Connect using a broadband connection that requires a user name and password option works for DSL or cable modem Internet services that use PPPoE.
- The Connect using a broadband connection that is always onoption works for true 'always on' DSL or cable modem services (those that do not require a username/password) as specified in their service agreement.
Using an Internet Provider's Setup CD
Following the Use the CD I got from an ISP option in the 'Connect to the Internet' section of the Windows XP New Connection Wizard leads to the screen shown.
WIndows XP displays this option for instructional purposes. Service providers normally created their setup CDs to include all of the necessary setup data for an operating system in a self-contained package. Clicking Finish exits the wizard and assumes that the user has inserted the appropriate CD to continue the process. Modern broadband Internet services generally do not require using setup CDs.

Not that it matters, but the host pc is accessing the internet via 3g usb modem.

Step by step instructions:
1. Go to Control Panel >Network Connections (In classic view).
You should have two connections, one is your network card, the other your 3G modem.
At this point, you can run the Network Setup Wizard by choosing Set up a home of small office network. Internet Gateway is an option here:
If you want to proceed manually without the wizard:
2. Right click the connection that provides the internet connection and go to 'Properties'
3. Click the Advanced tab and tick Allow other network users to connect through this computer's Internet connection.
4. ... Profit? ... You may need a restart, but it should now work!
If you are having problems, it is possible your 3G stick uses a third party (crippled) driver/dialler program. In this case, all I can suggest is to uninstall it and manually install the generic (Huawei (Most likely)) driver, and adding it as a modem, effectively bypassing the dialler program. You may need to do a search for your providers codes/dialling numbers.
